This month, we’re thrilled to present Cheb Mimo, a boundary-pushing selector and storyteller, with his latest soundscape project. Diving deep into the untold history of Raï, Mimo unearths rare gems from the era when the genre was banned from radio.

There was a time when Raï, the raw and soulful voice of North Africa, found itself silenced on the airwaves. Banned from radio, the genre turned its exile into a crucible of experimentation. It was in this cultural underground that Raï grew sharper, stranger, and undeniably modern. Stripped of mainstream exposure, it became a defiant space where new voices and sonic textures emerged, carving out a future for a genre that refused to be.
